If it is the one with the small pegs round the outside of the clock you pull the pins to the edge for the amount of time you want the heating to be on. In the middle of the clock there is a 3 position switch, fully one way is off, the other way is permanently on and if the switch is in the middle the heating comes on and off with the clock.
