Electrolux dishwasher EIDW6305 leaving residue on dishes?

Is there a flaw in how this dishwasher works? I don't know if the problem is the water not getting hot enough, or the fact that debris gets stuck in the trap at the bottom, but my dishes are not getting clean.

Hi, and thanks, ck. I have tried the highest water temperature, but it does't make a difference. The hose that connects to the plumbing is very long. It is mounted on the cabinet side and loops around at least twice. Could that have anything to do with it?

use the highest temp wash program available on the dishwasher and see if the results are better
