Braun Shaver AC/DC Power plug broken, can I use a normal 12V adapter?

Hi,
my Braun shaver AC/DC adapter is broken. No DC from the output. Here is the part.

Does anyone know how I can identify which wire is +ive and which is -ive? I am thinking to use an old AC-DC adapter as it is only 12V & 400mA output...

Thanks,
Tom

Braun Part No 5 496 for my 8590 shaver is Input 100-240V AC, 7W. Output 12V DC 400ma.

The polarity of the bit that goes into the shaver is positive on the top/bottom and negative on the sides with a no-load voltage of 14.78

The simplest way out for you would be to purchase a new lead, I have about 35 in stock and they cost £15. If you play with an alternative lead you may damage the shaver as well!

they 400mA was written on the original Braun ac adapter itself so I guess it's OK.

Just need to identify the + & -. I suppose I can just guess 50/50 chance...

It looks like the faulty ac adapter is moulded plastic so no chance to repair...

I have an old Philips electric razor here - the adaptor plug has 9W (9 Watts) written on it - at 12V that requires 1.3 Amps.

Assuming your Braun razor has a similar power requirement to my old Philips then 12V 400mA will not be enough power - just under 5 Watts.

Plan B is called for.

Good luck...
