Thanks for help. Cannot remember where flat side should go and tension seems quite tight. Bobbin ok but can't get stitching right both sides.

Hello Jane,
One cause could be the needle in the wrong way round, the machine may be threaded wrong which is quite common and if it is coming unthreaded that is what I would check first.
