How can I fix ice maker on Admiral GC2224GEKB?

my ice maker on my admiral GC2224GEKB is making loud tapping noise when ice maker is in off position. Have tried switching freezer off for short periods which stops the noise for a short time but the noise always comes back. This has been happening for 2 weeks
