knitting machine not working correctly?

I have a Toyota 950 knitting machine that when set to bring out the needles to correspond with the punchcard brings out different needles. When no card is in but the carriage set for colour, needles are brought forward in a recurring sequence. Any suggestions?

Hi Denny,

Make sure the machine is very clean and oiled well.
I have a Toyota 901; I'm not sure if the patterning mechanism is the same on the 950. I had problems with the patterning because the roller bar at the back of the needle bed was very stiff. The old grease on it had hardened, so I tipped the machine up, cleaned the roller bar and put oil on all the joints of the bar, set the carriage to read a card (no need to put a card in) and ran the carriage to and fro until it ran smoothly.
Another thing to check is the actual punchcard mechanism. If you take off the plastic covers at the rear of the machine you can clean out any fibres that have accumulated and check that it's working when you move the carriage. Also remove the sponge bar at the front of the needle bed and make sure there is no accumulation of dust and fibres inside the needle bed.
Hoping this helps,
Regards
