My Nokia 6300 phone keeps powering off?

I believe my Nokia 6300 needs a software update, but the phone will not stay on long enough to connect to the computer

A mobile phone repairer can do that for you - they use a different socket actually inside the handset.
If you take it to a shop such as carphone Warehouse, Phones4U or one of the network shops they should be able to arrange that.
