Can you use lime plaster over bonding?

Im helping a friend out by re plastering part of her house. She wants to go back to lime plaster but around her fire place she has a brick wall.
What is the best way of forming a good background for lime plaster? (ie - could I use bonding or browning?) as I dont know enough about making the traditional horse hair background.

Thanks for any help

Yes you can. Lime mix will stick to almost anything. It's feature is that it lets everything under it breathe, wood and other porous materials. You should have no problem, but make sure the surface you are covering is well scratched and rough for adhesion.
