my son wants to play age of mythology(gold),but their support stated that the grafix card may have to be upgraded/dated?

Their list will show what the card needs to be. If the list doesn't say that it works with VGA, then you need to upgrade. VGA is one of the lowest levels of graphics. IBM (who invented it) announced it in 1987 so it's showing its age a bit.
