how can i fix my sharp dv-rw360?

when i load a vhs tape the tape is ejected. i have tried various tapes but to no avail. the recorder worked fine up until recently.

Thanks for your answer Chas, I can't check FF OR RW due to the tape being ejected when inserted. I will try to check the pick up wheel to see if it is turning.

does your video player re-wind and f-forward ok if not pick up reel might not be turning sensor picks this up end ejects tape
