Choke settings?

Just got a used petrol strimmer with a choke setting lever and marks from left to right like |-| | ||| and not entirely sure what settings mean. It is difficult to start and not sure what the running position is. Any one know?

Position 111 is full choke, pull engine over until it fires once, then move choke to position 11, pull engine over until it runs, allow to warm up and then move choke to position 1 fully off, the engine should then run smoothly, note engine will only fire at position 111, it will not run, do not continue to crank engine at position 111 after the first fire or you will flood the engine.
