Loud tone when turned on?

Dear Registerman,

I have a second hand ER-290 donated to our non-profit organization. I downloaded the manual; however, when plugged in the register makes a loud tone regardless of the key position. The register LED display shows:
E,3,4,8,7,8,5,5,0.

I'm unable to determine if the register is usable or not. Any suggestions on how to reset to make the register usable?

Thanks,

Bob

I've attempted to clear the RAM without success. The load tone and LED display error codes continue. I'll see if I can crack the case to get to the battery for replacement. I really think this has become a door stop.

It has been turned off for too long or has a bad internal battery, so it has lost all programming. You need to perform the RAM clear in the front of the manual.
