egr valve?

the egr valve in my 2004 vectra 2.0ltr diesel is playing up.my vauxhall dealer, whom I bought the car from, says that they can get a new part but will cost £400 plus fitting.I have looked on the internet and not sure which one is mine ,but all of them are under £100.I believe the part no:9158200 is the one I want for my engine,Y20DTH. this looks easy to fit and is easy to get at and I could do this my self.Is this dealer pulling the wool over my eyes and taking me for a ride, and if they are who do I complain to please. Pete.

try removing the egr valve first and give it a clean and check it is not seized, may save you a few quid

all main dealers treat motorists like idiots, charging up to 3 times the amount for parts you can from motor factors or of the net, and charging up to £100 per hour for labour charges. not much point complaining to trading standards as there is nothing they can do about it. the best way is not to use them unless you really have to. just make sure that the parts you get of the net are the right ones, as it could be a problem to return if wrong. most motor factors use your reg. number to supply right part, but are happy to replace if wrong.

hope it helps, August 2010
