Hi,
This is down to a faulty startup capacitor. I've seen it loads of times. If you let it run backwards for any length of time it will blow the capcitor so dont let it.
If you give Belle a ring, they will send you one (dont know how much they cost) 01298 84606.
Its easy to change, just 4 screws on the back plate when the drum is removed and you will see the capacitor clipped to the motor and connected with 2 push on wires, just replace this and it should work fine. For your info i used to work at Belle and dealt this ever day.
