Airbag warning light on, on 54 Ford Galaxy tdi ghia?

How can I stop the airbag light coming on while the engine and car is running. The car has not had a knock and has a cosy life, mostly traveling around our home town, and has only done 40,000 miles! I do not trust our local dealership, having had extremely poor service in both trying to purchase a car from them, and their servicing, I do not trust their service dept. for what needs to be done. Is it dangerous to still drive it, could it activate while driving? The car was purchased new and is not an import.

One Garage diagnosed clockspring/Squib when airbag light came on, on My 54 galaxy 1.9tdi cost of repair they said est £350.00... ouch. left it for afew monthes aware that airbags were unlikely to deploy in event of accident, I then had it re diagnosed at another garage, and all fault codes that they found were reset I have now done 150miles with no airbag light on while engine on of course I am pleased with that result so far. I hope this remains so Im very glad I got a second opinion and likely to change my Garage because of this.

Steve. Thank you for taking the time to answer in my hour of desperation! Yours and Nigel's help and information has been fantastic, I will now be joining FGOC soon. (my wife was wary as we have had internet troubles in the past). Sorry I didn't respond if you replied last night, but our son has just had a new kitchen fitted and I had the call of, 'dad, help!' (I am a decorator).
My neighbour who is a mechanic (Maserati's etc.) had said he thought it was possible to reset, but our Ford garage told me it wasn't! Again, many thanks as it has lifted a big weight (and expense) off my mind.
Ordering cable and will let you know how things went.

The light will need resetting even if you have done the repair.Once it has been logged in the ecu you have to clear the fault code and then it will make the light go out.If the fault is still there it will come straight back on.Buy a vagcom 409.1 lead off ebay and you will be able to test/diagnose/reset fault codes using your own laptop.this will save you a fortune in garage diagnostic costs!

Nigel - Thanks for your quick response. After looking on the web yesterday, I looked under the seats, two of the three wires in sleeving to 'whatever' under drivers seat cut by seat being moved, repaired, but light was still on!
Today after your email I checked under both seats for yellow sleeving. All my sleeving black on both sides but drivers side has lilac flash taped on it, while passenger side has a yellow flash, each going to a yellow connection block, all seems fine. Regarding front seat belts and wiring, do you mean wires/wire to where you plug in the seat belts? (Sorry to be a bit stupid) I'm a practical fella mechanically, but all the modern electrics is just too much!
I saw on one site about connecting temporary wires to 'whatever' to overcome a 'peak' which could occur on the seat belt system, but I dont want the car to go up in smoke like the recent Ferrari's! Thanks for your help.

Check under the front seats for the wiring going to the seatbelts (covered in a yellow sleeving) the connectors often get pulled apart with seat adjusting
