when the wires are connected from the car to the head unit. on the head unit bunch of wires itself u should be left with a red wire hanging with a cap in it or on it, same goes for a yellow wire remove caps & connect, they should be like a male & female clips. hope this may help

I've got exactly the same issue with my X reg 106. I gotta Sony MD head unit and i can't get the 106 to supply power to the memory when the ignition is off. There are 4 wires for power, and according to the Haynes manual they are:
B*** (white) = +ive
M*** (green + yellow) = earth
A*** (blue) = negative
V*** (orange) = lighting feed (the thin wire)
(where V*** is the wire number, if you can read it!)

It works fine with the ignition on, but where can i get a permanent feed for the memory from?
