If an electronics device gets wet it should be unpluged and not turned on until it is dry inside. Infact I take the back off and clean the circuit boards and contacts with electronics cleaner and then let it dry. As I said it should be unpluged when you do this. But it sounds like you put it on before it was dry inside. (even if it was dry inside it might short out if it wasn't cleaned right away- and even that miht not have saved it.)
