I have a Kennmore washer purchased in approximately 1999. I don't have the model number on me. Today, mid-way through the wash cycle it stopped and started smoking (from inside the washer where the clothes are). It smells like burnt rubber so I am wondering if it is a belt. The washer is not full of water & clothes and won't work at all. Any suggestions? Warranty just expired in May.

There is no belt on this washer. Do you hear the motor running when its supposed to agitate and spin? Does it fill and drain ok?
