hi i took the gearbox out . found that the pump is gone. i had the pump replaced and put the gearbox back. The problem that i have now is when the car is in drive the o/d light comes on and flashes and when is wants to change from 1st to second gear it slips and looses drive and goes into a higher gear. What could the fault be please advise. This is a automatic gearbox that we are talking about.

the o/d light flashing indicates a fault is detected !
this is the sort of system thats on a mazda bongo or sumat like that. looks like more than your pump is gone in your auto box!
fitting is important!!!! the converter has to be located corectly all the way in the pump,if not it will damage the pump

Guess the transmission, Would this be a Mondeo? 2-4 band not working, can be servo split (round cover under box) or band broken or misplaced whilst pump out

when you refill auto g/box with auto transmisson fluid, you need to start the car and keeping brakes ON, go though the gears to allow fluid to settle thoughout the g/box. if you do not do this then the gears can "slip", suspect this is whats happening, this applies to nearly all types of automatic gear boxes.
