Replace a Faulty Seal

Turn off the power supply to the Badger 1 at the main fuse box for the house.

Locate the electrical connections on the bottom of the device and use a screwdriver to loosen the screws holding them in place.

Locate the tube that connects to the Badger from the dishwasher, if applicable. Remove the metal clip that holds the tube onto the Badger by loosening the screw on the clip. Pull the hose away from the unit.

Locate the waste tube on the bottom of the Badger 1 and use a screwdriver to remove the two screws in the face plate. Pull the waste tube off of the device.

Grasp the sides of the Badger 1 with both hands and turn it counterclockwise, using firm pressure to unscrew it from the top mounting brackets.

Remove the screws located at the sides of the Badger 1 approximately 6 inches from the bottom. Pull the plastic cover off of the bottom of the unit.

Look inside the disposal unit to locate the seal, which looks like a thick, round, rubber circle. Pull the seal out and take it to a hardware store to purchase a replacement.

Insert the new seal into the unit in the same position as the old seal. Reinstall the Badger 1 by reversing the steps taken to uninstall it.
