Potterton EP 2001?

The EP 2001 controller has a battery. This seems to be dead. The controller has power but no LED. Any help appreciated

my potterton EP 2001 has power & runs well & displays are correct but the prog & select buttons don't work so I can't re set the time when the clocks change. If I cut the power & remove the battery is it likely to reset the controller or will I just make it unuseable and be left with no hot water or heating?

battery is just a backup in case of power cuts to keep settings stored. if no display with mains power to timer then you need a new timer.
