Hi. I have a vauxhall astra 2004 model 1.7td. It is the new shape and yesterday when i pressed the brakes the abs light came on and the radio went off as though there was some interference. A little further up the road the engine management light came on and so i pulled over to have a look at the engine. when i came to start the car again it would not start, like it had a flat battery and only started after around 10 mins with no lights on. any help would be much appreciated.

althugh not an answer, I have a 04 Astra 1.7TD SRI New shap and I also have something similar that has rendered it undrivable. The battery is not charging but the alternator is not faulty? when we drive the car it loses its lights, steering, dash lights and radio but as soon as you switch the engine off the lights come on but it wont start. There is also an electrical drain that the garage cannot. Any assistance would be fab because I want my car back :(
