Are you sure it's a chain? as the 1.8 is beltdrive! With the timing chain there is no set replacement interval, normally you only replace them when they become noisey or if you have any other work done on the head etc it's then good practice to replace it and the tensioner and sprockets, but if it's a cambelt then up to 1997 40,000 miles or 5 years and from 1997 then 70,000 miles or five years and the injection belt up to 1997 40,000 and from 1997 70,000
