how do i change a single ceiling light to 4-6 240v halogen downlights?

hi, i want to fit 4-6 240v 50watt hallogen downlights instead of a single ceilig rose, do i just connect one to the wires that come into the ceiling rose then use 1mm lighting cable from 1 light to the other? and is there a safe no. of lights that i should not go over? thanks

ok what you need to do is lift the floor (or pull down ceiling) to route the wires around or get into the loft space above if it is upstairs turn off the power, get yourself a 4 or 6 way 20amp junction box and connect the wires into it above the ceiling just as the y are in the ceiling rose you want to connect the new wire where the lampholder went so between neutral and switched live, then loop to each downlight so the last one only has 1 cable, depending on the fitting you will need to put a small j201 junction box on the two 1mm twin wires so that one wire goes to the downlight conection remembering that the new building regs require that fire proof fitting or fire hoods are to be used in ceilings between habitable floors but are not nessisary in attics
