Hi,
The Chrome tap is held to the rest of the tap by pushing on to a red or blue plastic sleeve (i.e. hot or cold) If you turn the water off and rotate the tap, there is a small hole at the bottom of the tap where you can see the plastic sleeve. I think you're meant to insert a screw driver into the small hole and slide the tap part off the sleeve, but due to dirt and grime build up is was impossible. So I took it off by using the end of flat head screwdriver head at a right angle to the tap and nudged the screwdriver with a hammer to force the tap off the sleeve. Once removed, unscrew the screw with a philips screwdriver and the sleeve comes off. Then you see a black plastic retaining ring, remove with adjustable spanner, which exposes the washer which you can simply remove with your finger. The washer component has a notch so it can only be inserted in one direction.
