How can I fix my Matsui DVDR100?

My Matsui DVDR100 had a power cut whilst recording. When I switch it on and try to get past the 'Reading' sign a prompt comes up saying, 'Power failure detected, attempt to recover last recording' - 'Confirm' 'Ignore'. 'Confirm' is highlighted but the remote does not activate it, or move to highlight 'Ignore'. In fact, I cannot get past this point. Any ideas to unfreeze it, please?

An assistant in Curry's advised me to unplug the DVDR100, wait 15 seconds, plug it in, switch on, simultaneously pressing the eject button continuously. After doing this, the disc was ejected and the machine now works perfectly.
