radio asks for code for no reason?

my freelander 2006 has suddenly asked me for a code, i was told to use the last 5 digits of the serial number in the glove box but it keeps then jumping to " wait " then later on asks me for the code again, i'm a serving soldier and dying to get this sorted prior to driving back to edinburgh from dover this friday for xmas leave.

If the display continually shows "CODE WAIT" then the unit may be codelocked and will need to be left switched on up for up to two hours to reset before another code entry attempt is possible.

so leave it turned on until it resets itself.DONT take faceplate off your have to wait longer.
i have sent you am email about checkin the serial stamped in to the metal casing in case its a replacement.

that 15545 is right for the above serial

the code is as follows BE4765 650 288 211 5545 D, as soon as i switch on the engine the display shows " code wait " and has a facial pic of a bandit holding 7 fingers up in front of himself, i eject the facia of the radio ( nav system ) then 20 seconds later there is an audible beep, i push home the facia and the display asks me to insert code, i have tried the last 5 digits of my serial number ( above ) but no sooner have i hit the last digit than it immediately returns to " code wait ".
Am i the dumbest soldier around or is this a common problem, i have no owners manual unfortunately :-(
