Bose Wave CD repair question?

Bose Wave CD repair question:

I have a Bose Wave CD player about 10 years old. When I place the disc in the unit, close the CD door, and turn on, the disc won't read right away and spins for awhile, before it "Bites" then it will work OK. If I leave the same disc in without opening the CD door, and turn the unit off, then back on, the disc will play just fine, which leaves me to believe that the laser is not the problem, as I first thought. It appears to have something to do with the round felt plastic disc holder that lays on top of the actual CD, because that's the rattling noise I'm hearing when the CD is trying to grab. This only happens when I open the door of the unit to replace a disc.
Anyone experience a similar problem with their Bose Player?...TIA, James
