Gas Fired Central Heating/Radiators?

I am getting sooty desosits above radiators. These deposits cover all windows and picures etc. It has also caused lines across the ceiling. Does anyone know what it could be?

it sounds like the radiators are convecting any airborne dust up the walls , you could try fitting a narrow shelf just above offending radiator, this will reduce upward convection. make sure if its got convectors on or between radiator panels these are hoovered out and kept clean and any open fire in same room has swept chimney as excess soot can be convected too. hope this helps.
