hard disk not present?

My thomson DT16300 does not diplay my 250gb hard drive therefoe no recordings. can the hard drive be reformated?

Sounds like the drive has not started up, take case off computer and listen to the drive when you power up, if no sound give it a slight tap spindle could be stuck
