If you've put detergent in the salt container, then the water softener needs replacing. You may well have cleaned the salt container out, but you can't clean the water softener.
The cloudy deposit is limescale, because the water softener can't now do it's job.
A new softener is about £100.

Model G646 SC Plus, put dish washer powder in salt tank three weeks ago, washed it out, all okay until yesterday when cloudy film all over after wash, salt light came on then off during wash. ( salt filled )

Not sure what a 'smoky bloom' is !
Be more descriptive & give the model number ie G1022.
More info is better than less.
