How can I overcome gohst imaging on my tv when I switch my dvd player on? ?

I have a Philips HDTV and have a Virgin V+ connected to it via the HDMI1 input and the picture has been perfect. I have just purchased a Samsung blueray DVD player and play that through the HDMI2 input but when ever I switch off the dvd player and go back to the HDMI1 channel for tv the picture has an annoying gohst like imaging. The only way to get rid of it is to switch everything off from the mains. All the TV/V+ settings are unchanged and this only happens when the DVD player is switched on and the TV autodetects and switches to the HDMI2 channel! Has anyone encountered this and is there a fix??
