If you only need to get a copy on the USB key, you only need to do this:

Open the explorer.
Find the location of your family tree data.
Plug in the USB drive.
Drag the tree to your USB drive.

The exact brand and model of your USB drive have little to no impact as they all works essentialy the same.

It's no quite as the previous answer said.

If you wish to save it in order to "export" it to another Family Tree program or share it with others, it needs to be in so called GEDCOM format. (This is the interchange format used and understood by all Family History programs.)

So you need to Export, Copy or Save As (Depending on what Family Tree Program you are using) as "name.ged"

Open the family tree document in and save it - selecting the USB flash drive as the destination device.

When you select "save" a window will appear - at the top of the window will be a drop-down list of the places you can send it to.
