how to clean?

I have a darset pendulum wall clock that does'nt work i took it to a clock shop I was told it needed to be cleaned, but it would cost more than the clock is worth . The clock belonged to my grandparents.

May get howl about this suggestion BUT

If you can remove the mechanism from the housing or at least gain access to it

In a ventilated room dampen a cotton bud with lighter fuel and very carefully wipe the places that the cog wheels fit into the front and back plates. As soon as cotton bud gets dirty use a new one. Once cleaned get some clock oil and put minuscule amounts on the spindles you have cleaned.

Not the professional way but it has worked for me! If your not happy with the idea don’t try it
