After replacing the rubber donut on a close coupled toilet, it seems to be leaking. I have fitted the donut with the flat part to the cistern and then tried it with the flat part to the pan, but both times it leaks. What am I doing wrong? Please can anyone help?

i would put the rounded side into the deep part of the pan inlet,make sure you thigten the nuts up good,, but be carefull not to crack the pan,
