my tv wont work with a vga/hdmi cable so i can use it as a monitor ?

i have a technika lcd26-207 tv and i am trying to use my tv as a monitor for the pc i have bought a hdmi/vga cable but i cannot get it to work am i doing it wrong or is it not supported

There is no such thing as a VGA/HDMI cable.

VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is a digital signal and so you need a converter. A simple cable will not work.
