Is a smelly oil boiler dangerous?

Our oil boiler is situated in the lounge and needs servicing. However, whilst waiting for the plumber to give us an appointment a strong smell of oil has developed. Is this dangerous?

Potentially, yes.
Kerosine is highly flammable, turn off a (at the tank supply) and hurry your engineer up!
