Timing Singer 418 sewing machine?

Hello,

Could someone please email me the procedure for timing a Singer 418 after replacing the vertical top gear?

Thanks!

Not the easiest job in the word ! First remove the top cover then you need to remove the front panel being careful not to allow the screw clips to drop into the machine.Next, remove the bottom cover & loosen the belt tensioner. It helps if you can place something under the right hand side of the machine so it is raised to allow the shaft to be lowered.Look inside the machine just to the top left of the stitch size regulator & you should see the gear to be removed.Turn the gear so the screw is visible & undo the screw.Carefully pull down the shaft so the gear can be moved & from the top of the machine place the tip of a screw driver into the hole in the gear & move it towards the front of the machine, may take some manoveing to get the gear out.Reverse the process to fit the new gear ensuring the screw tightens on the flat on the shaft & reset the belt tension.Remove the needle plate & set to maximum zig zag width, place the needle to the left & undo the screw on the hook drive gear.Move the point of the hook so it lines up with the needle & raise the needle so the hook point is approx 1mm above the eye.Thighten the gear screws, replace the needle plate & top cover & sew test the machine. If all is ok reassemble the remaining panels.

Good luck !
