If the pump won't pump, unhook the drain hose (keep it high and at the same level) and have a bucket standing by. Lower the hose into the bucket and the water should drain into the bucket. You may need a bowl for the last bit to get the hose low enough.
Next, on the front of the machine there is often a little flap on the bottom left or right at the front... Undo the plug-type thing behind it slowly as some more water may dribble out, and have a look in the little 'loo-roll' sized hole behind. With a bit of luck you'll see something in there which has been stopping the pump from turning. Remove it and put the plug-type thing back, taking care that there's no grit or crud in the screw thread. Put the drain hose back, pour yourself a G&T and think of how to spend the £40 you've just saved...
