why wont my sky+hd not record?

I recently aquired my daughter and son-in-law's ex-Sky+hd box, because they moved, and it worked fine, record, pause, playback, everything, but now if I try to record I get the message (record facility disabled). what can be done?

In order for it to record/playback you need a current Sky Subscription for it or it won't work.
