How can I resolve my painting problem?

I have just lined my walls (1000 grade) and painted 2 coats of vinyl matt emulsion with a medium pile roller. But there are a number of very noticeable rough feeling patches, that appear as though not enough paint has been used and applying more paint does not help. How can I sort this out?

the first thing i would do if it is a flat surface you are painting, is to get a flat pile sleeve for your roller which does not need as much paint to load, then paint the whole wall over again, and make sure the paint is evenly distributed, never let the roller run dry. best of luck James

Hi John.

This patches could be due to what we call stretching the paint out.
What this means if you keep rolling, the paints starts to run out of the roller and the wall paper will start to absorb the paint, then when you go over the area again the roller will start to stick in the tacky paint leaving a slightly textured finish.
If you apply another coat, load your roller right up with paint, but not so much that it's dripping, as you said you have a medium pile sleeve, this should cover about 1.5 -2 meters square, cover the area very quicky at first then go back over straight away, but no more will be needed, go over this area as normal making sure the whole area stays wet.

I hope this helps you out
