Bath/Washbasin Drain Gurgling?

When water drains out of our basin the bath gurgles. We've tried raising the pipe at the bath end, and under the basin. There's an old overflow still connected to the waste pipe from the bath, we've tried blocking that off, tried letting air out of the basin waste pipe and letting water out of the bath but it still gurgles. Any ideas?

The drain didn't always do this. Is that still a sensible solution or is there still some other underlying problem?

Thanks meantime though.

you need to install an antivac trap to the basin or bath. the gurgling is caused by air being pulled through the trap as the exiting water creates a vaccum in the pipe
