how to open the bonnet on my renault extra (diesel) van?

i got an old renault extra (diesel) van and i think the battery connections have come loose, but i can't get the bonnet open.
can anyone help?

Do you mean the cable's snapped? you may already know, but the bonnet on these opens forwards, think you might reach the catch area with a metal hook from underneath.
