The chair will only move a very short distance by switching off then on prior to operating lever being controlled to either up or down, will not move continuously, it is although it is hitting a limit and stopping.

hi terry...........test the 2 x 12v main carriage batteries situated between seat and carriage,like most stairlift batteries they only last 3-5 years depending on there usage,some batteries have a serial number stamped on the top and the last digits refer to the year of the battery was made and fitted to stairlift,,
if you test batteries singley,anything below 11volts the batteries need replacing also another common fault with the 300 model is the main carriage battery inline fuse/holder which is connected between the batteries if fitted..the 20amp fuse use to ark in holder due to being loose fit......hope this helps regards..
