How can I stop a Villeroy & Boch toilet from continually overflowing?

I have a Villeroy & Boch toilet of about five years old and it has now developed a fault. When flushed the cistern continues to fill with the excess flowing into the top of the overflow pipe and then down into the pan. How do I fix this? It is wasting water and costing me money as I have a water meter.

Definetely the valve in the Fill Mechanism (or Refill Mechanism or Fluidmaster) gets faulty. So even the water is full and the floater has pushed the valve rod to the maximum upper level, the water supply is not stopped. If we want to ensure it, after flushing, manually move the floater up simulating full water level. If water supply is still flowing then its confirmed.
The easiest way is to replace the whole Fill mechasism.
