The Tizio is about 5 years old. From the third year on, the counter-balance does not seem to work anymore. The lamp head keeps dropping down at the middle hindge point due to gravity. Has the hinge at the red "buttons" lost fliction? How do I repair it? My other 2 much older Dove lights have the same problem at the hinge even though they have different design of counter-balance.

I added 2 small coins to the inside of the lamp cover, held by a small amount of Bostik Prestik....Works very wel to balance the arm in position.

A simple answer is to wind black cotton thread tightly around the hinges between the washers and trim neatly.

The answer is clear nail glue just a drop on the joint with the unwanted drop. Repeat till issue solved a drop at a time.

Buy some tennis racquet lead tape and place it behind the lamp head or under the lid for the lamp; I used three two inch strips of gamma lead tape; if you need more try another strip.
My balance is restored perfectly.

if you are lucky enough that the problem is that the head is too light, it is easy enough to tape a coin inside the lid that opens to access the bulb....

I've found that the rivet connecting the "button-like" attachment mechanism is now slipping, causing the arm to fall down. The weighting suggestion you make will not solve the problem. It's a mechanical failure not a weight issue. The rivet should hold the button to the arm in an immobile fashion, using friction between the button and the red isolating plastic piece to stabilize the arm. That connection has broken, so the solution seems to be finding a way to firmly attach the button and the arm, e.g. glue or weld.

The issue is with the balance, the head vs. the counterweight. The light was initially carefully designed but lost some of that fine balance during mass production by Artemide...when new there was enough friction in the hinge to overcome an over-balanced condition either on the counterweight side or the head side. Now that the hinge has worn a fraction of a millimeter the poor Tizio hangs its head in shame. Not to worry...just take a coin and add it to an inconspicuous location either on the head or the counterweight side (mine was heavy on the counterweight) until it is balanced well. Of course the more inconspicuous the location of the added weight the better it will appear...simply taping a dime to the outside of the counterweight would not be aesthetically pleasing. Trial and error is key. Good luck...
