Simpson 650 Esprit (6.5kg washing machine)?

Machine fills with water but won't start washing. Can drain water out but won't spin either. A friend said it might be the filter with a small item stuck in it or dirt built up in it from the years of use.

Can anybody please tell me how to get to the filter - not the one inside the machine that's part of the centre agitator thing, the one in the guts of the machine? Thank you.

It doesn't have an internal filter. Think about it for a minute - if a filter or pump was blocked it wouldn't drain out, but you say it does drain. The problem is the motor not starting. First check the lid switch is working by lifting the lid up & down about 2 inches. You should hear the switch click on & off. If switch is working then you could have a bad timer, damaged wire going down to motor, fault in motor or bad starting capacitor.
