How can I easily replace the heater matrix on a Peugeot 405?

How can I replace the heater matrix on a 1994 Peugeot 405 without removing the complete facia, there seems to be a metal tube preventing the matrix from sliding out

I HAD THE SELF SAME PROBLEM. The matrix can be removed and replaced through the side/ beneath the glove box. Unfortunately i had to have a garage do this as I have no motor expertise, but i watched this been done. So I know it can be.
