singer 416?

hi have retimed my machine and adjusted needle postion it then sewed a couple of stitches then stopped stitching or picking up bottom thread adjusted bobbin holder and tried again now will not sew and stitch at all or pick up from bobbin put new needle and thread and spool and still no joy can anybody help have tried all things in service manual except looking at bevel gear as i would have to remove stitch mecanisam and don,t want to remove unless it is absolutley necessary

hi got timing instructions from original service manual for this machine bevel gear apperas to be okay it started sewing but made a grinding noise and then jumped out of sync again think i am going to give up on this as i have just been given a old toyota 2202 will try to get this working instead as not much wrong with that

Hello Sue,
You donn.t have to dismantle anything to look at the bevel gear, take the top off the machine and you will see the cream nylon gear, turn the balance wheel towards you and look at the gear and see if there are any broken teeth, did you get the timing instructions from me? if you did not then type my email address as you say it not as you see it and let me know how you get on
