fitting glass lid?

I have removed the glass lid from my hob to re tile the kitchen, it had three screws in each of the back two corners, these screwed into a rubber block attached to a spring,my problem is that the rubber block is facing back towards the wall, and the springs are too strong to lever them into a flat position to re fit the lid.the only way i can see to fit this is to remove the whole hob,but this would end up getting a corgi registered plumber to fit it back in.is there a way to release the tension? I've looked underneath but cant even see the springs.
any advice?
cheers.
